Each wish opens with a traditional Gond greeting : सेवा जोहार (Seva Johar) or जय सेवा (Jai Seva) : and continues in Hindi, which most Gondi speakers also read. Cultural note: Many Gond communities honour Ravan as an ancestral figure and do not take part in Ravan-dahan. These wishes therefore stay with the festive season, harvest, community and Gond heritage.

- जय सेवा! कोदो-कुटकी से भरे कोठार और हँसी से भरा घर : यही शुभकामना है। Jai Seva! Granaries full of kodo and kutki millet, a home full of laughter : that is my wish.
